At 7 weeks of pregnancy, the tissue that develops is incredibly small, often much smaller than people might imagine. It’s about the size of a grain of rice, and the physical form is not clearly defined. What is seen in medical settings, as shown in the image, is mostly soft tissue, which includes the beginnings of the gestational sac and early pregnancy structures.

At this stage, the development is in its earliest stages. The tissue does not resemble a fully formed baby but is instead a collection of cells that are just starting to grow and organize into what will later develop into a fetus. Much of what you see in early pregnancy tissue is supporting material, not the embryo itself, as the embryo is incredibly tiny.

This perspective is important because it helps ground discussions of early pregnancy in factual, visual information, showing just how small and early the development is at 6 weeks.
